The torrential tropical rainstorm that hit Broooklyn, New York, on the day of the fourth annual Jerome-Cummings family reunion on July 22, 2006, did not dampen the spirit of the one hundred and fifty or so family members who attended the bonding session. Fortunately, very little rain actually fell on Valley Stream State Park, while many relatives remained a home in Brooklyn due to the tremendous amount of water that fell there.

 

Crab and callalloo was brought all the way from Maryland. Theo brought lambi (conch) from Carriacou, and he cooked it up as stewed conch and curry conch. A plethora of traditional cuisine delighted the taste buds of the participants (fried chicken, sallfish cakes, etc), and somehow a bottle of Jack Iron made its way around the encampment.

 

Kids and others played basketball and soccor, and volleyball, and board games, and the potato sack races were held along with the tie-foot race  as the sun peeked in and out while sparing us the deluge of moisture that kept some people home in Brooklyn.

 

In all the event was extremely pleasurable as we paid tribute to those who have passed on and those who are infirmed. Forming our traditional family circle holding each others' hands, we pledged to continue the legacy and strive to work with and help the family be increasingly better. The next Jerome-Cummings family reunion in Carriacou, Wednesday, AUGUST 1 to Saturday, August 4, 2007.
